I spent the 2023 kitesurfing season in Sicily at Lo Stagnone, Italy. It is common knowledge that the spot is the best European place for freestyle progress. It was no different for me. I was teaching kitesurfing full-time for almost eight months, and I managed to make tremendous progress. I unlocked unhooked tricks I thought were out of my range.
When you are a kitesurfing instructor, kiting for yourself often lands in the 2nd place. I spend as much time on the water as possible, as I never know if I can kite at all the next day. Not even mention training. On other occasions, you can get extra time for yourself unexpectedly.
Progress is possible, but it requires a solid amount of self-discipline and a genuine desire.
When Struggles Become Inspiration.
I struggled with consistency and keeping a clear goal for each session I got. It was hard to pick up when I left off in my training. I often lost track of my trick's progress and rode without a precise plan. Don't get me wrong, it was fun, but I love to push it more.
I tried to be progress-oriented, but at the same time, I remember to have as much fun as possible. A few times, frustration hit me because I felt like I wasted a session just because my head was not in the game. Don't get me wrong, it was fun, but at the same time, I knew it could have been much better if only…
Because of this, if only I had started to take notes before going to the spot to know what to aim for if I got some water time. This evolved into making a rough plan for the upcoming week. The next thing I knew, I set goals and planned progress paths for each trick.
When I discovered Amazon KDP, it hit me - why not create a journal for my notes, a dedicated book that will replace pieces of paper and random notebooks? Something that I can dedicate to kitesurfing progress. This is how KSP came to exist.

The current version is actually the second edition. As I started using it in Kenya, it became clear it needed a minor update. So it did.
The Kitesurfing Session Progression Notebook
Progress in kitesurfing is similar to progress in any other sports discipline. The fundamental principle is to challenge yourself. You often head out on the water with a trick in mind, but amidst the emotions and excitement, it's easy to lose focus.
That's where this guided notebook comes into play. Its purpose is twofold. It helps you stay focused and physically prepared before your session. After your session, it provides a structured platform for a solid review, complete with prompts.
The notebook's design and layout keep your focus on the session, eliminating distractions. It offers lined spaces for writing and incorporates valuable tips and techniques for enhancing your focus and effectiveness on the water.

- Evaluation Sheets: After every five sessions, there's an evaluation sheet to help you assess your achieved and unachieved goals, notes and reflections, and a rating/progress chart for each skill.
- Progression Summary: The journal includes a section summarizing your overall progress across all sessions, highlighting your significant accomplishments and future goals.
- Notes and Personalization: Ten extra pages are available for any additional notes or personal touches you'd like to add to your journal.
The essence of progression is challenging yourself. Kitesurfing progression is not just about mastering new tricks; it's about personal growth, perseverance, and finding joy in this fantastic sport. Learning and improving are the pathways to more fun every time you hit the water.
In the notebook, beside the part you fill in, I put a section to help you progress with tips and techniques.
Why Keep Track in a Notebook?
Keeping track of my kitesurfing sessions in this dedicated notebook serves multiple purposes. It helps me stay focused and mentally prepared, facilitates review and learning, and ensures consistency in my progression. Ultimately, it enhances the enjoyment I derive from kitesurfing.
My Experiences.
Since I started using it, I never felt like I missed out on an opportunity to push myself, at least a bit. Whenever I write down my after-session notes, I already have ideas for the next one - which I also put on paper. Nothing flies away; I don't lose ideas; I keep them fresh and alive. If some time passes between my sessions, I always pick up exactly where I left off.
